Every Game Delayed In 2022 So Far

These are all the games you'll have to wait a little longer to play.

2022 is in its final few months, and our dear friend Art Van-delay has already shown up a few times to push games further into the year, or even into another year entirely. Game delays aren't rare, and as the year goes on, the list of games delayed in 2022 will only grow larger--rivaling the games releasing in 2022. To help keep it straight, we've compiled a list of all the games delayed so far, removing ones that have eventually been released. These are the games delayed in 2022 so far, including the latest, Forspoken. Note that only games with delays across all available systems have been included--games with only the Switch cloud version delayed, for example, have been omitted--unless the new versions were planned years after the original release.

Valkyrie Profile: Lenneth

Though not a very long delay, it's a delay nonetheless--Valkyrie Profile: Lenneth, which is an updated take on the PSP game, will no longer release alongside Valkyrie Elysium. Instead, the game is coming out on December 22, and those who had preordered the Valkyrie Elysium Digital Deluxe Edition will receive the game on that date. A standard "improve the quality" reason was given for the delay, but at least you have another game to play while you wait!

Evil West

It's hard to keep all the "Something West" games in 2022 all separated, but Evil West looks like one of the best, and it's unfortunately not going to arrive at its original release date in September. According to Flying Wild Hog and Focus Entertainment, the delay to November 22 was necessary to provide more polish, especially as it's releasing on five different platforms across two generations.

Deliver Us Mars

Deliver Us Mars

The follow-up to Deliver Us The Moon, Deliver Us Mars was originally scheduled to launch in September 2022. However, about a month before its release date, Frontier and Keoken announced it was being pushed by more than four months in order to give players a better experience. The new release date is February 2, 2023.

Hogwarts Legacy

Hogwarts Legacy, a game set in the 19th century of Harry Potter's world, was scheduled to release in 2021 and was then delayed to Holiday 2022. That didn't happen, either, as the game is now scheduled to release in February 2023. The PC, PlayStation, and Xbox versions will release at this time. However, the Nintendo Switch version is coming at a later and undetermined date.

Metal Slug Tactics

Metal Slug Tactics

A spin-off of the main run-and-gun Metal Slug series (which we haven't seen for a little while), Metal Slug Tactics was scheduled to arrive at some point in 2022, but it has since been delayed into next year. The very short announcement said "the squad needs a bit more time in the shop to prepare for the battles ahead," but didn't specify what needed more time. In any event, it'll be available on Switch and PC.

River City Girls 2

WayForward's River City Girls was a big hit, and expectations are very high for the sequel. However, River City Girls 2 will not hit its originally scheduled Summer 2022 window in North America. The developer has not given a new window yet, only saying it will come "sometime after" this point and to stay tuned for more information.

Marvel's Midnight Suns

The next game from Jake Solomon and the strategy experts at Firaxis will not be arriving in 2022. After already suffering a delay, Take-Two announced that Marvel's Midnight Suns will be coming in FY 2023 on new-gen consoles. The older systems and Nintendo Switch will be getting the game at a to-be-determined future date.

Arc Raiders

Arc Raiders

A cooperative shooter created by a former Battlefield developer, Arc Raiders was previously scheduled to arrive in 2022. However, Embark Studios put out a message in August that announced a delay to 2023 in order to "expand the experience, and allow it to reach its fullest potential." A final date in 2023 has not yet been announced.

Season: A Letter To The Future

There aren't exactly a plethora of bicycle road trip games on the market, and you're going to have to wait longer than expected for one of the biggest. Season: A Letter To The Future was scheduled to arrive this year, but Scavengers Studio opted to delay the game until 2023. For now, that delay is still putting the game in Q1 of next year, so the wait shouldn't be too unbearable.

Originally planned to launch in 2021, Fatshark's Warhammer 40,000: Darktide was pushed to Spring 2021 in order to give the development team more time for polishing and ensuring the game's longevity post-launch. A later delay further pushed the game's launch to November 30 on PC, with no final date for the Xbox version yet.

Toy Soldiers HD (Nintendo Switch)

Toy Soldiers HD was supposed to release for Nintendo Switch on August 5. However, shortly before its launch, Accelerate Games discovered an issue with the game's multiplayer mode running on consumer-level Nintendo Switch hardware, which did not appear elsewhere in development, meant it had to be delayed. A new date has not been set, but the announcement stressed it would still be coming "soon."

The Lord of the Rings: Gollum

The stealth game The Lord of the Rings: Gollum was scheduled to release on September 1, but it appears the team at Daedalic Entertainment are working to make sure it's a little more "precious." It has been delayed by "a few months" according to an announcement on Twitter, with no firm launch date at this point.

Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora

The first-person action-adventure game Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora is in development at Ubisoft's Massive studio, but it won't be ready for its original release window. Ubisoft announced in July 2022 that the game would be delayed, releasing in the next fiscal year. This puts it, at the earliest, at April 2023, though it could be well beyond that before we actually get to explore Pandora.

Star Wars: Hunters

Star Wars: Hunters

The battle arena game Star Wars: Hunters, a mobile and Switch title, looks like it could be one of the more exciting Star Wars multiplayer games to release in recent memory. We'll have to wait a bit longer to confirm this, however, as Zynga has delayed the game until 2023. The developers said its biggest priority it "ensuring players have the best possible experience," and that meant pushing the launch date.

Immortality

Immortality

Sam Barlow, best known thus far for the FMV mystery game Her Story, was scheduled to release his next game, Immortality, at the end of July. However, just prior to its scheduled release date, Barlow opted to delay the project until August 30 in order to give it a final coat of polish. The game, another FMV mystery, follows the investigation into a missing actress who appeared in three (fictional) unreleased films. Using these discovered clips, you must solve the mystery yourself.

Sea of Stars

Sea of Stars

Sea of Stars--the next game from Sabotage Studio and a prequel to its game The Messenger--was scheduled to release in late 2022, but it has since been delayed to 2023. The game, while taking place before The Messenger, doesn't follow its gameplay style at all, ditching the Ninja Gaiden platforming and action style for a turn-based role-playing game. Sabotage said it was looking to keep both the game's quality and its team members' quality of life in mind when deciding to delay it.

Homeworld 3

Homeworld 3

The strategy game Homeworld 3 was previously planned to launch at some point in 2022, but that is no longer in the cards. Gearbox and Blackbird Interactive opted to move it to the first half of 2023, not giving a specific reason other than wanting to offer the "highest quality." Fans will be able to hear more on the game during Gamescom in August, however, so that should help to make the wait easier.

Replaced

Replaced

The upcoming sci-fi platformer Replaced was planned to release in 2022, but the game is now coming out next year. The decision was made by developer Sad Cat Studios along with Coatsink and Thunderful because the studio has developers located in both Belarus and Ukraine. With the ongoing war, the team opted to relocate and had to pause development during this period.

Tchia

Tchia

T-t-t-t-t-chia! Sorry. Tchia has been delayed to next year, with developer Awaceb's "control anything" adventure game needing more polish and a chance to add additional "little details," according to the announcement. The game has been in development for more than three years thus far, and it also comes with a fully playable ukulele that has both gameplay and creative implications.

Test Drive Unlimited: Solar Crown

Test Drive Unlimited: Solar Crown

The next entry in the Test Drive Unlimited series will no longer arrive in 2022. Test Drive Unlimited: Solar Crown takes 550 kilometers of Hong Kong Island and makes it playable in a driving "lifestyle" game, and the development team stressed that polish is especially important.

Kerbal Space Program 2

The sequel to the acclaimed space flight simulation Kerbal Space Program will not be arriving in 2022. Kerbal Space Program 2 will arrive in early 2023 on PC, followed by a console release later that year, with Intercept Games emphasizing quality and polish as the primary reasons for the delay.

Starfield

Starfield
Starfield

One of the biggest games of 2022 will now be one of the biggest games of 2023. Bethesda's Starfield had a set date: November 11, 2022, but this may have been too optimistic. The game will now be releasing at some point in 2023, without a new final date determined. Bethesda gave a vague "polish" explanation for the delay, as well as the delay of Redfall, in an update post on social media in May.

Redfall

Redfall

Bethesda's other planned 2022 game, Redfall, was delayed at the same time as Starfield and also received a 2023 release window. The cooperative action game is developed by Arkane Austin and looks to differ fairly significantly from the studio's work on Dishonored and Prey. It will also be the first Arkane game to not release on a PlayStation system in more than a decade.

The Day Before

The Day Before
The Day Before

More like a little later than the day before, are we right? The Day Before, a highly anticipated MMO, was scheduled to launch in June, but the development team opted to make a big change. Now, to accommodate a switch to Unreal Engine 5, The Day Before will arrive on March 1, 2023. Studio Fntastic promises a "more advanced and adapted open worlds engine."

The Witcher 3 (current-gen)

The Witcher 3 released back in 2015 for last-gen systems, and PS5 and Xbox Series X|S versions are in development. However, CD Projekt Red opted to move development to its internal team rather than continue working with Saber Interactive. The decision has resulted in the game moving from its Q2 2022 window to an unannounced future date.

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom

Previously planned to launch at some point in 2022, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom will now release in May 2023. Nintendo didn't get a specific reason for the delay, though with any Zelda game, the reason can usually amount to "making sure it's perfect." The sequel will include gameplay in the air as well as the ground and it sports the same visual style as Breath of the Wild.

Sons of the Forest

Sons of the Forest

The much-anticipated follow-up to The Forest was originally planned to launch in May, but Sons of the Forest developer Endnight Games now says that window was "overly ambitious." The survival game is now scheduled to arrive in October, and given its spooky themes, this new window just might actually be the perfect choice.

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League

Rocksteady's first full-length game since Batman: Arkham Knight needs a little more time to cook. Scheduled for a 2022 release previously, the developer announced Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League will now be arriving in 2023. The game features characters like Harley Quinn and Deadshot, and it's technically a narrative sequel to Arkham Knight.

EA Sports PGA Tour

Talk about a double bogey. After already delaying the game once with an expected release window of late 2022, EA has opted to delay EA Sports PGA Tour a second time. The upcoming golf game is now coming in Spring 2023, and will have to do without the Tiger Woods name once again. The golf legend has switched teams, now working exclusively with 2K Games.

Starship Troopers - Terran Command

If there's any game that needs to have its bugs squashed, it's Starship Troopers - Terran Command. Based on the cult classic sci-fi satire film, which was itself based on a non-satirical sci-fi book, the game was supposed to release at the end of March. However, it will now arrive on June 16. It's currently "content complete" but the development team didn't want to have to fix it post-launch with further patches.

Advance Wars 1 + 2: Re-Boot Camp

Advance Wars 1 + 2: Re-Boot Camp

This one hurt. Less than two months before it was due to release--December 3, 2021--Advance Wars 1 + 2: Re-Boot Camp was pushed back to April. It was then pushed back just a month before launch in response to "world events," almost certainly meaning the war in Ukraine. Far more than a remaster, this complete remake of the two GBA-era Advance Wars games sports a new art style and support for up to four players. Given how long it has been since the series' last game, we supposed waiting a few more months isn't the end of the world.

Planned previously for an April 2022 launch, the long-awaited STALKER 2 was first delayed to December 8 before a further delay pushed it into 2023. The studio, based in Ukraine, was forced to pause development due to the ongoing Russian invasion of Ukraine, with some of its development team even volunteering for the armed forced to defend the country.

Frontier's Warhammer: Age of Sigmar RTS

Can a game be delayed if it doesn't have a final name? Apparently, as Frontier Development has announced its previously teased Warhammer: Age of Sigmar will now likely not arrive until later in 2023. That should be fine with Warhammer fans, as they have quite a few of those games to play in the interim.

The Settlers

The Settlers
The Settlers

The oft-delayed strategy game The Settlers has been delayed again, this time indefinitely. Previously planned to launch March 17, the game was pushed back to an undetermined future date after the game's closed beta received criticism. Ubisoft Dusseldorf is using the time to "improve the game and push quality as [its] main priority for all players."

Forspoken

Forspoken
Forspoken

Square Enix and Luminous Productions originally planned to launch Forspoken in May, but the decision was made to further add polish and make improvements a few months before that date. The game was then set to come out on October 11 for PS5 and PC, but that date will also not stick, as Square Enix has delayed Forspoken until January 24, 2023. As part of the announcement, the companies said, "All game elements are now complete, and development is in its final polishing phase."

Planet of Lana

Planet of Lana

The rescue adventure Planet of Lana won't be arriving this year after all. Developer Wishfully made the announcement while also confirming the game will come to Xbox Game Pass at launch in Spring 2023. No final release date has been set, but the gorgeous game certainly looks like it'll be worth the wait.

High on Life

High on Life

Squanch Games' High on Life, a bizarre take on first-person action from Rick and Morty creator Justin Roiland, is still releasing in 2022. However, the game was delayed by about six weeks in order to add polish and "squash some bugs." Now, it's releasing on December 13 across PC, Xbox, and Game Pass, as well as Xbox Cloud Gaming.

A Space for the Unbound

A Space for the Unbound
A Space for the Unbound

Unlike most other games that have been delayed in 2022, A Space for the Unbound's console versions were not delayed because they needed more time in development. Instead, the delay came after Toge Productions and Mojiken Studio terminated its publishing agreement with PQube Games, alleging the latter company had misused grant funding intended for a diversity initiative. The two companies added that PQube has refused to give them back publishing control for consoles, and the game is being delayed until the situation can be worked out.

Bomb Rush Cyberfunk

Bomb Rush Cyberfunk
Bomb Rush Cyberfunk

A spiritual successor to the Jet Set Radio (or Jet Grind Radio) series, Team Reptile's Bomb Rush Cyberfunk was previously scheduled to release in 2022. However, the studio announced in August that doing this would not "take it to a level where [the team] would be personally satisfied," and it chose to delay the game. The fairly long length of the delay was slightly surprising, however, as it's now planned to arrive in Summer 2023.
